Struggling with a server change..

Posted by Chris Stormer

So this week my extreme adelphia connection has been down for 3 days, which has completey kept me from posting an update. Then I decided a day or two ago to well change servers, basically the server I was using wasn’t impressing me. Sure mySql 5, and php 5 are great, but the fact is so many wordpress plugins and things can have issues. I got things switched over within a few hours, but not all went smooth and perfect, the http access rewrites I had made that pointed www.chrisstormer.com to chrisstormer.com automatically.. gone.. now it’s backwards which of course is wrong because the www is being phased out (the exact technical word for this is escaping me at the moment)… anyway it’s not important.. what is important is my blog is back and it seems to be working.. mostly right. :)

Fast CGI, PHP 5.1 & Ruby Railin.

Well I upgraded the server to run php 5.1 and turned on Fast CGI so I could make some cool database prorgrams in Ruby.. ruby is supa cool now if only a whole bunch of people would take it up so there was killer documentation it would be perfect. Note: I realize there is an immense amount of documentation it just hasn’t been organized very well.. altho every day that goes by it seems like another well written book or tutorial is poping up.

Progress 1.1.

Slowely but surely everything is starting to come together with the blog. The main goals for the next couple days.. get all the sidebars the same or similar throughout the site. Fix easy to fix bugs (The most recent comments bug would be a good one). A redesign of the front page would be excellent.. I’m thinking about killing the whole comment bar altogethr and just improving the recent posts lists. Probably not worth a 2.0 tag.. so I’m going incremental here.
